Fingerless Mitts

This is what I worked on for my Sunday knitting.



I decided I had enough time to pop out a pair of fingerless mitts for the Loopy Ewe Q2 Challenge.  One mitt down, one more to go.  :~)
I'm using Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted in the color Bittersweet.  I'm using the same concept for the Wristers pattern obviously with some adjustments.  Can you imagine how big this fingerless mitt would be if I would have cast on 60 sts instead of 40 sts using worsted weight yarn.   :~)    I think I'd have a mega mitt.

Baby Hats are Done!

I finished the other baby hat.  The pattern is located in the Free Pattern section....link is located in the top left column.

I improvised on the model since Bree is sleeping and there is no way I'm crazy enough to wake her up.  It's one of her toys.  It has these cool see through plastic balls that get dropped in the top and you pull the blue lever and they drop down into the bottom and roll out.  She loves it!  You can see if here if you're interested.  Fisher Price is in my opinion is one of the best toy makers for little kids toys out there.  Out of 7 years of buying their toys we've only had two toys that were recalled.  Look at me, here I am putting in a plug for Fisher Price.  Hell with the amount of toys I've bought from them I should own stock in the company.

I also tried the coffee can.....I think the toy worked out better.  Wonder what coffee Trish drinks.  :~)

I'll get these hats mailed out to Sheri here in the next few days.

Quick Update

This is what I worked on last night:



I'm almost halfway through the second baby hat for the Loopy Ewe Q2 Challenge.  I'll post the pattern when I'm done with it.  It's a simple hat but I'll post for anyone who's interested.

Not much going on today.  I still have a few boxes floating in the mail so there may or may not be another post later today.  The agenda for today is to finish the last load of laundry and knit, knit, knit.  :~)

Baby Hat is Finished

I finished the baby hat for the Loopy Ewe Q2 Challenge.  I managed to get a few good shots of the hat on my favorite model before she showed her fussy side.  :~)




I made up the hat as I went so I'll post the pattern out here on the blog here in the next week or so.  It's knit using sock yarn double stranded and size US 4 needles.  I have enough yarn to make a second one so I'll test the pattern out by knitting the second one.  :~) 

It's super easy! 

More on the sock I started later on today.

Sleepy Puppy & A Baby Hat

This was last nights knitting:



I restarted the baby hat for the Loopy Ewe Q2 Challenge.  I decided to double strand it and it's coming out a lot better.  I'm kinda winging it with this hat.  I put about an inch of ribbing and then I'll probably knit for a total of 5 inches before starting the decrease of the hat.  I haven't decided how I want the decreases to look....I'll figure that out in the next few days.   :~)
I'm not 100% sure, but I may be able to get another hat out of the skein.  I'll see when I get farther along with this hat.  After the hat I'll start a set of fingerless mitts.  I have some nice superwash sock yarn that I can double strand.....I'm looking for faster knits.  I don't think I have enough worsted weight wool to make a set of mitts.  I'll have to go digging.

This is what Zeus looked like the whole time I was knitting.  Well that's what he looked like after Shawn went to bed.  It's kinda funny to watch a 200+ lb man cuddling with a 6 lb toy poodle.  Shawn bought Zeus for me but some how the little turkey has become Shawn's dog.  :~)

Baby Hat Revisited

OK.....I'm back to the baby hat issue, which for me has been solved.  I wanted to make a hat that would fit a slightly older baby, say 6-9 months.  I found this post on the Yarn Harlots blog that really helped me put everything in perspective.  So going off my gauge of 8 sts per inch and my little midgets 17" head I need to cast on about 136 stitches instead of the 92 stitches I'm working with now.  The 92 stitch hat will fit a head about 11.5" around.  I think that's about preemie size.  So I'll be ripping it out and trying again with more CO stitches.  I'm going to wing the pattern.  If it turns out good I'll post the pattern out here for anyone else who may want to use it.
Well I'm off to feed the masses and all that other wonderful jazz.

Baby Hat

I decided to take a break from the stupid Monkey socks I'd love to kill.  Tonight I knit on a baby hat.  This hat is for the Loopy Ewe Quarter 2 Challenge.  I'm using the Online sock yarn that Sheri sent to me for the challenge....I posted a pic of it with the Louet Gems I ordered.
Now my problem is, I'm not sure if it's big enough.  I have zero experience making baby hats.  This hat is about 5" wide unstretched and it will stretch out to about 7.5".  These measurements are straight across the hat not the actual circumference.  Anyone have an opinion on if the hat will be good.

I guess I should test it on my little midgets fat head.  Bree's head has always been on the big side so if it fits her I should be good to go.  Chance are I can get more them one hat out of this ball of yarn.  I may keep this small one and then cast on more stitches for the next one.  I'm not going to be heartbroken if I have to sent it to the frog pond.  I'd rather knit a hat that is usable then one that's going to be way to small.
